| What is traditional bonesetting? |
|
Traditional bonesetting is a holistic care process. This means that a good caretaker can balance the skeleton, muscles and joints but also instruct the patient regarding diet, exercise, workload and occupational exhaustion as well as other difficult life situations.
In life we face many kinds of accidents and injuries which lead to imbalance in the body. In the course of time this imbalance moves up and down in the body causing irregular tension leading to malpositions and torsion of joints, pelvis and spine.
The length difference in the legs develops as we do not stand firmly on our two feet, our supporting pillars. In a way ‘wrong muscles’ are forced to maintain the balance in the body. Due to this also the normal function of the nerves, blood circulation and lymphatic circulation is prevented. As a result we have pains ‘here and there’ depending on the location of the weakest part of the body. For some it is knees or hips, for others back or shoulders. Some people have aches in all of these.
A person can also clog himself in other ways. Wrong, unhealthy dietary habits and lifestyle, excess use of alcohol or drugs, not sufficient amount of exercise, too large workload, lack of relaxation or buried difficult life situations (work, relationships, angsts, absolution) can also cause several physical aches.
A good caretaker takes into consideration as well the physical problems as the psychological clogs. He is able to listen to the patient and discuss difficult matters. If he is not able to do it himself, he knows where to direct the patient as no one can master the entire field of health care. From a good caretaker the patient leaves as from a soft nest, feeling refreshed - not as they had been hit by a truck.
Supporting organs of the human body form a kinetic chain
Sometimes the cause of discomfort and the symptoms may be situated far from each other. For example symptoms in knees, hips or lower back may result from the excess inward torsion of the ankle also known as overpronation. This is explained as the supporting organs form a kinetic chain where the movement of one joint affects the next one both upwards and downwards. The excess inward torsion of the ankle can also cause malpositions around knees and hips as well as tilted pelvis. Unequal torsion of ankle causes also operational length difference in lower extremities. Imbalance around spine may also cause symptoms in the area of autonomic nerve system; around heart, bowels, kidneys, and bladder.
CHRONIC BACKPAIN When backpain has lasted for more than three months it is considered chronic. Long-lasting pain and the lack of finding the cause to it can be distressing and depressing. Aches limit the mobility on daily basis. Long-term consumption of painkillers causes troubles to stomach and other viscera. Internal bleeding caused by analgesics is common. The origins of chronic backpains are poorly known. One explanation is distorted ergonomics at work. Traditional bonesetting always strives to find the original cause of discomfort. All possible previous injuries of ankles, knees, back and other joints are enquired from the patient. All injuries, even those acquired in childhood, might stand as the origin of chronic backpain. Over time injuries also lead to changes in balance all over the body and these can be noticed by bare eyes when the patient comes to the clinic for treatment. For example the fractures of ligaments in ankle increase the scar tissue which may lead to blocks both in upper and lower tarsal joints. This again may lead to length difference of legs. Very often sprains cause malposition also in knee joints. If these malpositions caused by injuries are not fixed, they cause aches also in upper parts of the body as the human body seeks for new balance. Length difference in legs causes pelvis to twist to the side of the shorter foot. This leads to a new situation in articulatio coxae as hips are not properly in their ‘sockets’. Imbalance around SI joint is created, leading to scoliosis in lumbar joints and torsion results in strain. Chronic back pain has started. If this is treated with a platform sole it might bring momentary relief to backpains, however, in the long term body starts to seek for new balance. As a result, new malpositions with new exertions will arise. Platform soles should be used only when one of the leg bones is verified to be shorter than the other. Traditional bonesetting offers significant help in all these problems.
SITUATIONS WHERE BONESETTING HELPS: Traditional bonesetting helps efficiently in both acute and chronic exertion of musculoskeletal system when contraindications are excluded. Bonesetting is very effective for example in following:
